WHAT IS IxNetwork?

IxNetwork is Ixia's next generation Layer 2/3 test application, designed to characterize the performance and scalability of routers, switches, and other Layer 2/3 forwarding devices. IxNetwork builds upon and significantly extends the functionality of Ixia's IxRouter application with an innovative design that integrates IP control plane emulation, data plane traffic generation, and real-time results measurements. IxNetwork incorporates the field-tested emulation engine from the existing IxRouter test application, with significant enhancements:

- Traffic Wizard - This new, easy-to-use wizard is designed to automatically create traffic streams to validate the data path setup by IxNetwork's protocol emulations. The Traffic Wizard sets up transmit and receive ports to track traffic flows based on the user's configuration for source/destination routes, IP QoS, VLANs, MPLS VPN sites/routes, etc. A graphical packet editor allows for easy, customized configuration.
- Enhanced Real-Time Statistics - Traffic statistics now include per-flow traffic QoS measurements to track packet loss, throughput, and latency. Detailed control plane statistics have been added per emulated protocol to allow users quickly troubleshoot protocol issues.
- Test Scheduler - Designed to simulate instabilities and other dynamic behavior that may affect network devices, the new Test Scheduler allows users to program a sequence of test events to flap the emulated topologies or turn on/off the traffic generator under specific situations.
